Okunlola began to research and development to determine whether it was feasible to make a sheer tulle specifically for Black women. The secret was a thin, sturdy tulle with a hint of shine that could blend in with the skin. The specialty tulle, according to Okunlola, required a lot of labor to make, but it was worthwhile once people flocked to her gowns. Okunlola claimed that she thought brands weren't even making an effort to accommodate ladies with darker skin while considering other choices on the market.
It was important for the designer to have options other than just brown, such as beige and dark brown and one should feel that the dress is for them. In a world where band-aids and tights are all a neutral shade of beige, it is hard enough for the different skin tones to match. Okunlola comes as a much-needed answer to a long-pursued question and lets the darker-skinned brides be truly themselves.
