Statement Wedding Veils To Swoon Over
FEBRUARY 27, 2023
One of the most important questions when it comes to your bridal look is “veil or no veil?” A veil is comparable to the satin ribbon used to adorn a thoughtfully wrapped present. Is it necessary? Honestly, no! But it undoubtedly gives the wedding appearance a sweet touch and elevates it a little. It's too magical—a blushing bride gleaming like a star under the delicate veil, the groom unveiling her to view her face and seeing the twinkle in her eyes. But much like picking the ideal wedding dress, selecting the veil is a time-consuming procedure. More so, perhaps, since the veil will be picked not only for its own sake but also to see whether it precisely complements the gown. While we agree a veil is very much a part of the outfit and depends on the dress, and you can probably get away with a very minimal veil, this blog is about the veils that fall on the other end of the spectrum. We are talking beautifully textured veils, dramatic shorter veils, and billowing long veils with gorgeous details. Wearing a statement veil takes a lot of pressure off the dress, and adds an unexpected twist to the bridal look. If you have been approaching the veil as an afterthought, we suggest you rethink your approach, because going “statement” for the wedding veil might be the key to a memorable bridal look for yourself and your guests!
When looking for a statement veil, there are some statement factors that you might have to factor in. Let's explore those before we look at some of our favorite statement veils out there!
Statement factor for your Statement Veil
Length
- Birdcage Wedding Veil: This short, flirtatious bridal veil may fall at the jawline, skim the nose, or simply cover the eyes. This type is often referred to as a bandeau veil and is typically constructed of lace or net.
- Shoulder-Length Wedding Veil: This wedding veil design touches your shoulders, as the name implies. For women who prefer a traditional-looking veil that doesn't overpower the features of their gown, shoulder-length bridal veils are a fantastic alternative.
- Blusher Wedding Veil: This design, often referred to as an angel veil or wedge veil, has a less conventional appearance with a retro charm. A blusher is a brief veil that covers the face and terminates at the top of the garment. It is pulled aside throughout the ceremony to reveal the bride, which creates an emotional moment when the groom meets his wife for the first time.
- Elbow Wedding Veil: An exquisite approach to cover yourself without donning a cumbersome bolero or shrug is with an elbow-length veil if you want a more formal appearance for your wedding. An elbow veil glides beautifully over the shoulders to the bride's elbow.
- Fingertip Wedding Veil: A fingertip veil is a popular option since it enables any pattern on a bride's gown's back to being seen through the translucent fabric and falls past the bride's hips.
- Knee-Length Veil: This bridal veil length is intended to fall to your knee and adds drama and elegance without making you feel heavy. Depending on your height, you may adjust the veil so that it falls right at your knee or a little bit further.
- Waltz Wedding Veil: There is no need to remove your veil during the reception. But if you do decide to wear it, be sure it won't obstruct your ability to dance and mingle. A waltz veil is an excellent choice for people who want to wear a longer veil for the reception but still want the flexibility to walk about freely during the night. It falls to the mid-calf. This kind of bridal veil is sometimes referred to as a ballerina veil.
- Floor-Length Wedding Veil: This grazes the ground and corresponds to the length of the bride's dress. If you were debating between a ballgown and a more streamlined style, the flowing fabric will offer additional volume to your appearance, which is ideal for the bride.
- Chapel Wedding Veil: A chapel-length veil will provide the appearance of a train without the need for a bothersome bustle. A chapel-length veil sweeps over the floor, stretching just past the bride's gown.
- Cathedral Wedding Veil: A cathedral-length veil is the most dramatic down the aisle length, and it must stretch beyond the train of the bride's gown for the most royal arrival.
Color
- White: White is a crisp, clean color. Suitable for "white" bridal dresses composed of satin, organza, tulle, crepe, taffeta, and chiffon, *with the exception of* those made of silk fibers.
- Eggshell: Eggshell, also known as natural or diamond white, is a slightly "off-white" color without any undertones of yellow. Perfectly matches natural silk dresses and other slightly off-white hues; sometimes known as natural, pearl, off-white, and silk white.
- Ivory: Ivory is a rich, soft off-white color with a little undertone of cream. Eggshell is a little lighter than ivory. Ideal for dresses in ivory, ivory nude, and ivory blush color families. All other tones combined make up the remaining 1% of the veils we manufacture, which are either ivory or eggshell in hue. When you scrunch up ivory in your fingers, you can notice a warmer, paler ivory cast, in contrast to eggshell, which nearly has no color at all.
- Dark Ivory: Dark Ivory is a darker color of ivory that borders on the cream family. For candlelight, cream, or certain champagne materials, such as many darker-toned silk mikados and brocades, dark ivory works well.
- Other Colors: There are a few other specialized hues available as well. We have blush, sorbet, and oyster, which is a very soft sand color that pairs beautifully with champagne tones or warms up a pale ivory gown. If you want to go bold, go for a statement color like black, bright pink, or even red!
Detail: Veils with beautiful details are every bride’s dream! The details can be in the form of sequins, floral appliques, lace as texture, or even fur or embroidery. There are so many options when it comes to veil details, so don't forget to have fun with them!
Material
- Chiffon: Due to the tightly twisted strands that make up chiffon, which is a flowing and silky fabric, it is the only fabric that is opaque, therefore creating a veil would only need a few layers. There are two varieties of chiffon: Polly Chiffon and Silk Chiffon, the latter of which is produced entirely with silk. Depending on the material used, they may have a smooth and soft sensation to the cloth or a more firm but still smooth feeling. Typically, this material has a 45" maximum width.
- Organza: Organza is a semi-transparent fabric composed of silk, nylon, or synthetic polyester. Silk provides richer tones, whilst polyester creates a kind of deep light look. As a material, organza has the flexibility to be worked with in any length and number of layers. Typically, this material has a 60" maximum width.
- Point D´Espirit: Point D'Espirit provides two distinct designs and uses a variety of textiles, making it a highly flexible material. It comes in a criss-cross or dot pattern and is transparent, allowing the wearer to add as many layers as desired to get the look they are going for. Typically, this material has a 45" maximum width.
- Silk Tulle: Although silk tulle is a beautiful and very delicate material, constructing a veil from it is difficult, hence it is not often used. It may be made of French silk, which is delicate and thin and difficult to handle, or of Italian or English silk, which is the greatest option if you want a silk tulle veil since they are thick and can support the weight of decorations like pearls. Additionally, this material may be used for any length. Typically, this material is available in widths ranging from 60" to 110".
- Bridal Illusion: The most popular material for veils is Bridal Illusion, which is 100% nylon, transparent, and may be utilized in any length and with as many layers as required. Additionally, it has a pleasant feel, albeit it must be made clear that this relies on the fabric's quality. Typically, this material is available in widths up to 108".
- Swiss Dot: Swiss Dot is a transparent fabric that can be manufactured at any length and with as many layers as necessary. It is made from a bridal illusion and has little dots dispersed throughout the fabric, giving it a beautiful and delicate touch. Only 60" wide rolls of this material are available.
- English Net: English Net is a polyester nylon veil material that is soft to the touch and to the eye, similar to chiffon, but differs in that it is transparent. It might be best fashioned as a single-layer veil due to its weight. Only a 45" width is offered for this material.
- French Net: French Net is a kind of netting with enormous holes. French net, which is stiff and used for birdcage veils, is extremely simple to form. It is a daring option that is often utilized for wedding gowns with a vintage feel.

And after exploring the many lengths, styles, and variants, you could find yourself wanting to give in. While we generally are used to seeing minimal veils with classic cuts, going statement can add a bit of drama to your overall look!
