The dress is (arguably) the protagonist of the show because it certainly steals the limelight.
While it is surely about the complete picture, the material of the dress is of great importance too. It is what ultimately decides on the final look of the dress and the vibe that it emits. It essentially gives words to the message that the dress wants to deliver. Let us go through some of the most used bridal fabrics and how they impact the movement and look of gowns.
• Satin: Very few people know that satin is a finish, not a fiber, and can, therefore, be of various blends and synthetic. It is surely one of the most fluid and versatile material for a wedding dress. It has a smooth finish which falls perfectly on the bride’s body, flattering it while hiding the problem areas (while we believe there is no such thing!) This material is complimentary to all the body types.
• Organza: This sheer lightweight fabric is perfect to give your attire that barely-there air-whipped feel. Traditionally made of silk, this fabric is delicate and organized, giving your bridal dress that ethereal heavenly feel. It looks incredibly romantic and out of the world, and is great for the bride with the delicate look.
• Tulle: Tulle is a light and airy net-like fabric that makes you look like the perfect blend of Tinkerbell and a ballerina. This fabric is malleable enough to be draped and can also be stiffened to be more edgy and structured. This is surely a delicate fabric and should be taken care of!
• Lace: Lace is one of the most commonly used material for weddings and is often used as an overlay or an added detail. Lace doesn’t only come in different designs, the materials can vary too as per the price. They are surely one of the classic choices for weddings and also will look perfectly romantic as your wedding photographer captures you. Some of the famous lace types are Chantilly, Alençon, and Venise, but there are many more options to choose from.
• Chiffon: This sheer and floaty fabric is a rave favorite of many brides as it makes you feel like you are floating in the air. Due to its translucent property, it is great for layering and it drapes perfectly. When worn, it almost looks weightless and divine. This delicate fabric can be layered accordingly to create as much volume and movement as required.
Wedding dresses have clearly gone through a long evolutionary journey. There is always that particular material which matches a particular wedding better than the other. It’s all about the specific aesthetics that your wedding demands and the material delivers. However, there are so many different blends of material out there that one can experiment with.
